last ditch effort the hail hary pass was the house of representatives saying fine let's take nancy pelosi and chuck schumer's bill that they proposed this summer to extend the tax rates on every household and every small business a million dollars and below, allow them to go up on the million dollars and above which is the current law on january 1, let's do that. that ought to be something we can agree on. let me add this. when we he voted on our bill in the house this summer it was a clean extension which was an extension for are everyone in america not only did every republican vote for that but 19 democrats did as well. so this is why it is so frustrating for those in the house is that now we are close to the cliff. >> greta: and frustrating -- >> and we can't even get a single democrat to join with us. >> greta: if you think you are frustrated try the american people as they watch what is going on. congressman, thank you, sir. good luck, sir. >> call the senate and get them to act. we can't negotiate with nothing. >> greta: i don't think they would listen to me. thank you, congressman

what is going on now, 30 minutes from now, any moment, they're starting to arrive, we have boehner, pelosi, mcconnell, reid. they're on capitol hill. what can president obama offer that both sides can agree to. >> unfortunately for individual members of the republican house it is to their interest to let tax increases go into effect. that way they won't be viewed as having raised taxes. they can come in and easier to negotiate with them. what the president, what we are hearing about what the president is proposing though, is a small deal to get them through the fiscal cliff so that it avoids some of the implications, some of the more damaging implications for the economy. i don't think the fiscal cliff honestly is really going to have a huge impact. our housing market and labor market remained firm and i think they can survive this. but i do think that though, that if the president does offer this smaller deal i think there's opportunity here, though it is probably slim. heather: that smaller deal, or that plan-c as the president has called it, i guess last friday or we're calling it now p

nancy pelosi leader democrats in the house and harry reid, leader of senate democrats essentially saying entitlements are off the table when we know entitlements are the biggest drivers of debt. gregg: there may be a reason for that. marjorie, senator john barosso chairman of the republican policy committee put his finger on it. he believes the president is eager to go over the cliff for political reasons because he senses victory at the bottom of the cliff. those are his words verbatim and, you know, then the president gets to punish republicans. and he also might get more money in a for taxpayers, from taxpayers to expand the government. what about that? >> well i have a really hard time believing anybody, republicans or democrats would win from going over the cliff. talking about potentially putting country in recession, what it would do to the markets. here's the deal. these type of negotiations what we lost a $4 trillion opportunity when boehner and obama were at the table having talks prior to the holiday. what we're looking at really condensed timeline of $1.5 trillion. kay bailey

okay, dave, there are five guys, four guys, pelosi, boehner, reid and mcconnell, along with president obama, who might want to watch this segment. how did you do it in warren county, ohio? >> well, we try to keep it simple. me and two others don't think this government stuff is all that hard. hard is being out of a job and not being able to make your mortgage payment. hard is having a sick child. running a government and living within your means, not hard. so really the folks in washington should try to put aside some of their own petty concerns and say, let's be a statesman. let's step up and try to do what's right for the country. >> eric: how did you do it? did you raise taxes? looks like you have a projected $20 million reserve fund for next year. how? explain how did you it. >> yes. essentially we try -- we're 220,000 person county outside of cincinnati, home of great corporate citizens like procter & gamble and others. we got king's island, western southern tennis tournament is housed in warren county. what we trio do is foster environment where people and businesses want to com

does john boehner need nancy pelosi in order to get anything passed? >> reporter: yes, absolutely. no question about it. that became incredibly obvious when he couldn't even get his own republicans to effectively save them from themselves and at least have some political cover by voting to keep tax cuts in place for everybody except millionaires because they said they wouldn't help him with what they call a political ploy. i think that's true but actually talking to people on both sides of the aisle here, because the ball is now in the senate -- the senate's court, the feeling is that if they can kind of break the dam in the senate and if something actually passes, you've already seen over the past two days house republicans saying that they hadn't said before, if the senate passes something, we'll take it up. and if that's the case, the sort of betting is that with the help of the majority of the democrats, probably most of the democrats and maybe, you know, a few dozen or more republicans, that's how it would get passed. but, candy, it's still a big if, as we just witnessed, whet
